BISHOP J. E. MOORE
Pastor, humanitarian, husband, father, broadcaster… the ministry of J. E. Moore reaches far and beyond the boundaries of normal ministers touching the lives of those in his church, community and around the country.
Bishop JE Moore was born in Galena, Kansas, May 24, 1939 where he attended the Galena Elementary & High School. He was quite the athlete receiving recognition as proof. He played football, ran track, and played the trumpet for the school band. During his high school years, he gained access into the "Golden Gloves" for boxing. Currently, he brags about being quite a challenger in hand and racquet ball. He is at present looking for competition before he gets too old.
During his early teens, Jay faced the tragedy of losing his mother, Edyth and brother James (Buddy) Moore in a car accident. He then moved to Joliet to stay with his elder brother Lester Johnson before enlisting in the United States Marines, February 1958. While there, he served with the Military Police and played in the Drum and Bugle Corps. He graduated from the Field of Music School, and received an honorable discharge February 26, 1961. Before enlisting, he met Tecola Williams, a believer who attended the Apostolic Faith Church on 800 Princton Street in Lockport, Illinois. They kept in communication through letter writing. After Jay was discharged from the Marine Corps, he too became a member of the Apostolic Faith Church in Lockport, April of 1961, hoping to marry Sis Colina Williams’ daughter (one of the first members at Christ Temple Joliet).
Finally, February 17, 1962, Jay was united in Holy Matrimony to Tecola Williams. From this union, five beautiful children were born: Evan. Jayme Lynn, Elder Gregory Wayne who is married to Sis Tracy; Sis Robin; Min. James Edger Anthony who is married to Ira; and 1st Lady Edyth Colleen who is married to Pastor Melvin Campbell of Christ Temple Church in Bloomington, IL. From these unions of marriages, J.E. increased in family wealth with seven grandchildren: Jay who is the eldest; James Jr., Christian, Christopher, Melvin, Jeremiah, Tecola Clim and Jariah all of whom have believing parents.
During the birth of his middle child, J.E. along with Dr. D. Rayford Bell founded Christ Temple Church of Joliet October 8, 1965. With this new found responsibility, Jay went on a fervant study "to show himself approved” graduating with a BA from Berean Christian College, BA from Governor State University, MA from Moody Bible Institute, ThM from Trinity Theological Seminary, PhD from the International Seminary, and Doctor of Ministry from the American Seminary. Jay is currently seeking a second Ph.d.
J.E. was ordained with ministerial (Elder) credentials July 1967; appointed to Dist Elder March of 1973; was appropriated as Bishop March 1995; was nominated Elective Assistant Presiding Bishop of the International Pentecostal Churches of the Apostolic Faith, then appropriated July of 2000.
As a community leader, Jay served the Joliet area as a board member for Big Brothers; as a board member for the YMCA, as a Advisory Board Member for Joliet School District 86; and as Advisory Board member for Will County.
In addition to all this, Bishop J.E. is known for serving the PCAF as Convention Manager managing the Annual and Biannual meetings of the National Conventions. He also served as Treasurer for the Midwest Apostolic Bible College in the Joliet and Chicago area, where he is currently the professor of Hermeneutics. He is known to some as the instructor who also taught Greek, Homiletics, Theology, Church Psychology, and Church Administration.
